Rumiís approach to racing goes back to 1987, when the first ltalian
and then in 1988 World Superbike Championships were born, to continue
the following years in other new classes created to give a fair
opportunity to good tuners and riders to obtain satisfactory results
on small budgets and commercial motorcycles available to all.
The Team starts off in the World Superbike Championship ( a championship
for our stroke machines only ), winning the first two editions
straight out of the gate in 1988 and 1989 with Fred Merkel. The
Team continues the effort in the World Superbike Championship
with other brilliant riders to then switch to the 600 Supersport
Championship with sixteen year old Ruben Xuas and in time, when
even in this class the manufactures started introducing factory
machines, to the Superstock class. In 2002 Team Rumi is back in
the SBK World Championship with Englishman Mark Hackles as Honda
Castrolís satellite team on the VTRSP2, but after a low key season
and the worldwide difficult economical moment, the team decides
to dedicate more time to the upcoming national racing realities.
Yes, because since 1987, the Team has also started engine and
bike preparations for other teams and riders, achieving great
satisfaction also in this field. The great experience achieved
in racing and the research and development done by the in-house
technicians has created a line of special parts and HONDA engine
preparations, supported by the participation in various championships
for final testing. In 2001 a new company named Googhy is in charge
of selling RUMIís special parts and organizing national Cups with
the highly qualified support of the teamís men.
After 2003 the prevalent activity is the
preparation and the develop of bike for external private teams
with race assistance too and the develop of prototype.
